Early Career Achievement Award


Description

Obverse. On a gold disc 1½ inches (3.81cm) in diameter a partial sunrise emitting from center base with sunrays emitting in overlapping steps encircled by a stylized laurel wreath. Overlapping all in base a partially unfurled scroll inscribed “NASA” superimposed by a rearing horse with hindquarters and neck encircled by two orbicular rings.

Reverse. The reverse of the medal consists of above a partially rising sun with sunrays emitting upwards in overlapping steps encircled by a stylized laurel wreath, a scroll unfurled inscribed “Early Career Achievement.“

Symbolism. The Early Career Achievement Medal takes is symbolism from the dawn and Aurora, the goddess who rode across the sky to announce the coming of a new day. Her horse exhibits the qualities of strength and purpose to reach a goal. The circular orbits are taken from NASA’s insignia representing space travel and here are used to indicate the journey of a career. The dawn, with the promise of a new day, corresponds to the promise of special achievement early in one’s career.

Ribbon. The ribbon is 1-3/8 inches (3.49cm) in width, composed of the following vertical stripes: 1/8 inch (.32cm) Bluebird 67117; 1/16 inch (.04cm) Cobalt Blue 67171; 1/8 inch (.32cm) Bluebird 67117; 3/4 inch (191cm) Goldenlight 67107; 1/8 inch (.32cm) Bluebird 67117; 1/16 inch (.04cm) Cobalt Blue 67171; 1/8 inch (.32cm) Bluebird 67117.
